Below is a preview of the films that will be screening at Imaginarium 2016.  With our largest number of submissions ever, we’ve got a fantastic range of short films, feature films, documentaries and music videos from directors around the world to enjoy during your Imaginarium weekend!

Day One, Friday October 7th:


The Spell Tutor

Category: Short Film

Description: The pilot episode of a web series inspired by the works of J.K.Rowling. A young student of magic must hone her skills with the help of her tutor.


Total Awesome Viking Power

Category: Short Film

Showtime: 4:10 PM

Description: When Viking role player Vidar is sidelined to “the land of the dead” he seeks help of the god Odin, who agrees to teach Vidar the ways of the Vikings if he takes him to a mystical Runestone. Together they embark on a journey that will test Vidar’s wits, bravery and his ability to go completely berserk.


Death After Pancakes

Category: Short Film

Showtime: 4:30 PM

Description: Imaginative and innocent 8-year-old Oliver witnesses his grandfather having a heart attack while camping in the backyard. As his grandma calls the rest of the family to spill the shocking news that her husband is at death’s door, and while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Death personified appears in front of Oliver’s eyes, wanting to take his grandfather away. After smartly fighting Death to give his Grandfather more time, Death gives Oliver 10 minutes to have one last moment with his Grandfather. When the timer starts, Grandpa wakes up and Oliver has to ignore all of Death’s distractions in order to enjoy one last moment with Grandpa. This short film explores the innocent mind of this young boy, fear of death, and acceptance in life through magical realism.


It Had Wings

Description: A widow, alone at home, sees something heavenly and wounded fall into her backyard. The old woman, coffee mug in hand, naturally tries to help. In this redemptive tale, written and narrated by Allan Gurganus, the ordinary goes briefly mythic. Kindness becomes what might save us yet.

Description: Thousands of days ago a portal to another world opened, unleashing all the creatures of myth, fantasy,and folklore into our realm. The human race, perceiving these invading forces as a threat, pool together their wealth, manpower, and resources to combat these foreign invaders using a cyborg army. However, once the animatronic army descends on the battlefield to confront these mythological creatures, the fantasy based beings surrender and the portal closes, stranding these refugees and curious wanderers. Our pilot takes place 6 years after these events. Most of the Cyborgs have been voluntarily decommissioned, and the individuals from the other world utilize their unique skills to try to assimilate within human society. ‘Mythplaced’ follows four individuals, two from the Human world and two from the Mythological realm who are having a fair bit of trouble fitting in.

His life begins to unravel when mankind discovers an extraterrestrial form of life that looks exactly like the symbol in his eye…


Legend of the Lich Lord

Description: A squabbling team of mystical misfits race an evil necromancer on a quest to find a mysterious orb. If the team can’t set aside their differences and reach the orb first, the Lich Lord will regain his power, unleash his undead army, and bring about the total annihilation of the realm. Legend of the Lich Lord is a comedic sword and sorcery meta-mockumentary based on the award winning web-series One Hit Die.


The Town Where Nobody Lives

Description: Richard and Elizabeth are a married couple on a road trip who find themselves lost in a mysterious ghost town.


The Woods

Description: A quiet post-apocalyptic drama, The Woods follows a lone woman struggling to survive in a desolate snowscape, while on a quest to take care of personal business. Blending arthouse aesthetics with horror themes, The Woods’ lonesome winter landscapes and melancholy music make it an introspective ride concerning the drama within.




The Dark Tapes

Description: A genre-defying mixture of horror, sci-fi, myth, mystery and thrills told as four interlocking tales in one intelligent, original anthology. The movie stars an up and coming ensemble group of actors such as Brittany Underwood (TV star of Hollywood Heights, One Life To Live & Youthful Daze), Cortney Palm (Sushi Girl, Zombeavers) and Emilia Ares Zoryan (Amazon’s Bosch: Season 2). Ghosts, spirits, creatures, demons and more from the paranormal world collide with rational curiosity. Could the supernatural exist in our everyday lives and have a plausible, scientific basis? The Dark Tapes explores this and more with surprising, sometimes shocking results that will leave you questioning what could be real.

Blood of the Tribades

Description: 2000 years after the Vampire Bathor has established the village of Bathory, superstition and religious violence take over as the men and women battle for control.

Long-forgotten lovers Élisabeth and Fantine find that, with the help of those who were banished, it is their fate to piece together the past and help preserve the little that remains before Bathor’s impending return.


Day 2, Saturday October 8th:

Who Did It?

Description: In 1985, Parker Brothers produced the CLUE VCR Mystery Game for VHS.

At the time, it became the most successful video board game of its time, revolutionizing the medium of VHS and video gaming. A few years later, Nintendo and Sega would hit toy stores across the country and the VHS began to fade away as the gaming industry quickly changed.

30 years later, the cast and crew reunite to tell the tale which many have forgotten. The trail blazers that helped change the toy market and the actors who put Boston back on the map as a destination for filmmaking, each give their personal and professional opinion on the importance of what the CLUE VCR Mystery Game was all about.



She Got Game

Description: She Got Game is the story of a young woman searching to reconnect with the world of video games. Once she had loved that world, but it seemed to be made by men, for men. Fed up with media buzz treating women only as victims, she wants to understand what keeps women gamers going. How are they carving out space in the industry? What are their sources of persistence and resilience?

Toronto to Montreal, New York to Tokyo, she talks, plays and works with women who are reinventing the ways we think about games and the social climate. On route, the would-be gamer is herself changed as she tackles questions of human agency, community and the biggest one of all–what it really means to be heroic.

Description: Episode 1 in a forthcoming series of mockumentaries from Eric and Kylie Jude of Frozen Creek Studios. Follow the adventurous Colonel D. R. Acula into Snow Snake territory as he leads an improvised investigation that will prove to be both hilarious and Deadly Dangerous.

Wig’d Out

Description: Hair flies in the life of teenage Olivia, who is totally bald due to the medical condition alopecia. Olivia works at the hair salon that is owned by her ex-beauty queen mom, after school and on Saturdays. Olivia’s challenge is not her hair loss, but the relationship with her mother. Flora wants Olivia to wear wigs and compete in pageants, as she did. But Olivia has other plans. She wants to skateboard and attract the attention of Chad, the assistant manager of Skaterz Skateboard Shop. Olivia has no hair, but is surrounded by situations involving hair and beauty. The film creates awareness for alopecia, as well as addressing teen bullying, self acceptance, diversity, how beauty is viewed, the mother/daughter relationship and other teen issues. Wig’d Out is a light hearted family film about a serious subject.

True Design
