Short Story Marathonarium Workshop Sign-up Form

(Special Note: This workshop will take place on Thursday, July 7th)

About the Workshop:

You’ve heard of the 3-Day Novel Contest.

You’ve heard of the 24-Hour Poetry Marathon.

Now get ready for the 3-Hour Short Story Marathon at Imaginarium 2022, where your completion of a short story gets you published in our anthology!

This workshop with author, editor, and presenter Sandy Lender will include a 20-minute presentation on “short” marathon writing, with tips for focus and sustaining energy over a one-day or three-day event.

You’ll be able to implement these ideas in writing events throughout your career. Then, near the conclusion of the presentation, Sandy will prepare the group specifically for our three-hour creative writing adventure, inviting special guests to join us for sensory inspiration.

At 5:30 PM, we begin writing. By 8:30 PM, each participant will transmit his or her story to Sandy for next steps.

$42 per participant

Key Takeaways from this Workshop:

· You’ll learn tips for marathon writing

· You’ll get a creativity kickstart for the weekend

·  You’ll have a complete short story

· You’ll have an endorphin rush of the highest magnitude

The theme of the anthology: Your Imagination is the Foundation

This anthology will be rated PG-13, so all genres except erotica are welcome. (Keep in mind, Sandy is most comfortable editing in speculative fiction and technical non-fiction, but you are not limited to those areas. You want to write a horror feghoot? We love it. You want to write an esoteric sci-fi vignette? We love that, too.)

Participants should bring the following:

· a laptop, tablet, or other word processing device*

·an idea and/or outline and/or character sketch

·headphones (or earpods) for listening to music while writing—if you wish

·a physical, paper notebook

·at least one pen (and a backup pen)

·caffeine (we will have a water station in the room)

·additional snacks (we will have light snacks in the room—easy-to-snarf while writing and placed within easy reach of writing stations, but participants are encouraged to have a healthy dinner before the workshop)

*We will have electricity in the room; there will be power at each writing station for your laptop or tablet, but Sandy requests each person double-check that laptops/tablets are fully charged before you arrive. (Crap happens. If a storm knocks out power, you want battery backup.)

What qualifies Sandy to lead this adventure? Among her handful of short story titles, “Woman Off the Grid” received a 2020 Pushcart Prize nomination and the 2020 IMADJINN Best Short Story Award. Other shorts have appeared in Winter’s Night, Tulip Tree Press’ 2021 Genre Anthology, and so on. You can learn more about Sandy at her website www.sandylenderink.com.

(This is not a workshop on how to write a short story. This is a workshop to complete a short story and have it included in an anthology. It will be exhilarating when you’re done!)
