Matthew Smith is a filmmaker and visual storyteller from Eastern Kentucky, working across short films, music videos, live events, and independent features since 2019. He holds a BFA in Visual Media from Eastern Kentucky University, along with a certificate in Veteran Studies, and a BS in Psychology.
Matthew has studied internationally at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand, and in London, England, expanding his perspective on global filmmaking practices. A U.S. Army veteran, his work often explores identity, trauma, and perception through grounded narratives infused with elements of mystery and regional folklore.
He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Education with the goal of teaching art at Georgetown College, while continuing to develop original narrative projects that blend detective fiction and mythic storytelling within contemporary Appalachian settings.
