What matters the most to you in life?
It’s a question that Jim Weter has explored throughout his entire career as a filmmaker and storyteller.
Showing through comedy, drama, and genre cinema: ordinary people facing extraordinary realities.
Beginning at age 9, creating a short film with his father using his mother’s Hi-8 camera, Jim Weter developed a passion for filmmaking that has guided his entire life.
First attending the University of Mississippi for Set Design and Construction, Jim worked in the scene shop building sets for stage plays. It was here, working to design and build sets using limited resources and to direct actors within them, that Jim developed the skills to build high levels of tension in small spaces and with limited means.
Jim continued his education at the University of Mississippi where he earned a degree in Film and Video Production all the while continuing to work outside of class on his own independent films. After graduation, and with a group of likeminded creatives, Jim founded Cellardoor Cinema: an independent film production company and platform for his artistic endeavors. And over 20 years later, Cellardoor Cinema is still going strong.
“Dreams of a Dead God” marks the latest film in Jim’s career and one of his most challenging to date. From writing an original, lovecraftian inspired story, to designing and building a complex set, to working and rehearsing with the actors in order to shoot in two long continuous shots, to the complex editing of the film, “Dreams of a Dead God” not only marks a milestone in Jim’s career but also in his skill in and dedication to filmmaking.
