The titles, presenters, and descriptions for these new programming additions are as follows:
New Workshops Added:
How To Be Creative When All You Want to Do is Take a Nap: Presented by Kimberly Hoffman. Many of us are chronically tired either because of health conditions, having too much on our plate, or trying to work a regular job plus write. How can we find time to be creative? Kimberly Hoffman will present information on pacing your energy, grounding, finding ways to engage your creativity in a more meaningful way by finding your purpose/mission, and learning some productivity tips. (60 min)
Publishing Without Expensive Mistakes: Presented by James O. Barnes. Publishing mistakes are often expensive because decisions are made in the wrong order or before the author has enough information. In this 60-minute practical workshop, author, accountant, and former small-press operator James O. Barnes will explain the decisions writers should make before spending money on publication. Topics include editing, cover and interior preparation, ISBNs, metadata, distribution, proofing, inventory, and promotional spending. Participants will learn which tasks they may be able to handle themselves, when professional assistance is worth the cost, and how one publishing decision can affect later options. The workshop includes real-world examples, time for questions, and a practical framework attendees can use to plan a book release while avoiding preventable costs. (60 mins)
Self-editing Like a Pro: Presented by R.C. Reid. Author R.C. Reid takes the audience through many types of basic mistakes and issues (both the simple and the more complex) that a writer should be able to catch themselves to make the job easier and more fruitful for a future professional editor or publisher, or to impress a potential agent. (60 mins)
The Science of Conflict in Fiction: Presented by David Simms. Discuss how to employ several layers of conflict in your stories to deepen reader engagement, amp up tension, and reveal character depth. (60 mins)
Writing Dangerous Relationships: Building Tension in Dark Romance & Psychological Suspense: Presented by Sabrina Black. Why are readers so drawn to relationships that are obsessive, complicated, or downright dangerous? This interactive workshop will look at how writers can build tension between characters while keeping readers emotionally invested.
We’ll cover writing morally complicated relationships, using secrets and manipulation to create suspense, and developing unreliable characters well.
The workshop would be intended for writers of all experience levels. (90 mins)
